BREWERY OPENING Mersea Island Brewery opened on the 18 March 2005 witnessed by over 40 members of CAMRA, DEFRA and local dignitaries and representatives from local pubs and off-licences. Roger, Jacqui and Mark were proud when the Anglia TV personality Helen McDermott agreed to perform the official ribbon cutting ceremony. Helen, who has stayed at the Vineyard's Bed and Breakfast when recording TV outside broadcasts, gave a short speech before cutting the ceremonial hops and allowing visitors to explore the brewery. Although the Courtyard Cafe was not officially opened until the following Saturday, they took this opportunity to display their culinary skills. Everybody agreed that it was pleasant way to spend a glorious sunny March day and all praised the quality of food and the taste and presentation of the the beers on tap.
