MERSEA ISLAND VINEYARD

Mersea Island lies between the estuaries of the Blackwater and Colne rivers, about nine miles south of Colchester.
The present Mersea Island Vineyard was established in 1985. Today there are about ten acres, under five grape varieties, producing some twenty thousand bottles each year.

2000 YEARS OF WINEMAKING

Legend has it that the Romans grew grapes on the Island and with its gently sloping, south facing fields, the vineyard is still the perfect place for vines.
Mersea Island vineyard offers a range of white wines from very dry to when conditions on the Vineyard have allowed it sweet desert wine.
There is even a superb sparkling wine, produced using the authentic ‘Methode Champagnoise’ secondary fermentation process.

HOLIDAY LETS

Vine Cottage - a ground floor cottage with views over the vineyard and the Blackwater estuary. It comprises of a lounge and kitchen/dinning area, 2 bedrooms and shower room/w.c.
The Hop Loft - first floor accommodation with views over the vineyard and the Blackwater estuary. The Hop Loft comprises of a lounge with kitchen/dining area, 2 twin-bedded rooms and one double-bedded room, all with en-suite shower rooms with wash basin & w.c.

BED AND BREAKFAST

Bed and Breakfast - Mersea Island Vineyard offers two B & B rooms, both with en-suite facilities which include a shower.  The rooms are situated on the first floor and are centrally heated and comfortably furnished. Tea and coffee making facilities as well as a colour television and hair drier and a fridge are provided in each room.

VINEYARD LAWN

Fully licensed, with additional car-parking the Vineyard Lawn is ideal for holding Corporate Functions, Wedding Receptions, Birthday Parties, Music Concerts, Craft Fairs etc.

MERSEA ISLAND BREWERY

Established in the autumn of 2004 the brewery supplies beers to pubs clubs and discerning individuals across mainland UK.

VINEYARD TOURS

Tours of the vineyard may be arranged for groups of 15 - 40 persons by prior arrangement April through September.

BARS FOR FUNCTIONS AND EVENTS

Weddings, Festivals, Shows or any special occasion. Let us run the bar at your event.

COURTYARD CAFE

Courtyard Cafe - choose from a select menu of freshly prepared dishes or try the vineyard's wines and traditional real ales, as well as quality coffees and teas in a peaceful courtyard setting.

HOW TO FIND US

From Colchester follow the B1025 9 miles south to cross the ‘Strood’causeway onto Mersea Island. On the other side take the left fork towards East Mersea. Rewsalls Lane is the third turning on the right.
